Tipi camping holidays and breaks in the UK.

It was 1954 if I remember rightly and I was 7 years old at the time. My "new girlfriend" was 8 and lived on a farm. She was quite forward for her age, probably because of her farm upbringing, but that's another story altogether - surprising how much the extra year matters at that age isn't it? Anyway, for her birthday earlier that year she had been given a Tipi by her parents, but in those days of course we called them Tepees or Wigwams. Tipis, even if that is their proper name for them just hadn't been invented, but we played our games of Cowboys and Indians and make believe became reality with Molly's new Tipi. Not only that but my girlfriend was the only Squaw in the village (ratherlike Little Britain only different). It was all very real as things can only be with kids that age.

From then I have never had the opportunity to go Tipi camping as there has always been some other holiday activity on the menu but from what I have seen and read about Tipis they are suitable for all year habitation, ie they will withstand storms etc but are great in summer, nice and cool. They are easily taken down for storage (or to move on if you are a Red Indian) and apparently they can be erected in a couple of hours or so, which is pretty time efficient if you have a Tipi camping site.

I guess that the Tipi you buy will depend entirely on what you want to do with it. They are quite a size, 10 to 30 ft and my guess is that you won't transport one in the average car. Do you want one one the lawn like Molly had all those years ago, or are you going to set up a camping business in that spare field you have near to the house?

That last isn't a silly suggestion at all because you will find that as banking and credit situation worsens in 2009 there will be lots and lots of couples in the UK seeking to enhance their incomes, or starting up in the leisure industry, and what better way of doing it that setting up an unusal camping business with Tipi camping?
