Camping and mobile home holidays in St Hilaire de Riez, Pays de la Loire, Vendee: If you have a camping website relating to camping in St Hilaire de Riez and you would like to see it featured on this page then please email camp@campingmobilehomesholidays.co.uk
There are masses of camping and mobile home holiday sites around St Hilaire de Riez (normally just called St Hilaire by us Brits). The official St Hilaire website tells you plenty about the area and the link points you to the English version. Getting there, well that depends where from - From the northern ports you may encounter Nantes and the Nantes Periferique which is a ring road really. Follow the signs for Bordeaux and get off the periferique at junction 48 and after about 2K take the road for St Philbert and Challans. Get to Challans wheere you can either branch off to St Hilaire on a minor road or carry on to St Jean de Monts and then take the coast road to St Hilaire and your camping mobile home site.
Been there many times, not to stay unfortunately, but to wander round the shops and restaurants. St Hilaire is a pretty little place just a few clicks south of St Jean de Monts and very near to it's neighbour St Gilles Croix de Vie which is another little town boasting lovely camping sites, though not as many as St Hilaire, just out of the main town area. The last time we visited was in July 2007 and after parking I remarked that in all the years we had been there we had never had to pay for car parking. There is quite a large car park just off the main road but the Pay and Display machine hasn't worked in years. Nice one, pity that never happens here.
St Hilaire is where the French call "at the heart of the Côte de Lumière facing the Atlantic Ocean" (Bay of Biscay to you and I) and it has about 12 kilometres of sandy beaches for you to play about on, good clean sea to swim in and sunshine to die for. Is there any wonder that we love to go there for camping holidays? Sometimes the sea can turn a tad heavy for youngsters to swim in so get a tide chart when you arrive, and if you like surfing then this coast has some superb surfing beaches, one particularly good one is at Longeville about 6K north of La Tranche (see camping la Tranche page for details on that)
