Self drive ski holidays. If you have a self drive holiday website that you would like to see featured on this page please mail camp@campingmobilehomesholidays.co.uk

I love the self drive and the apres-ski bits because I would drive virtually anywhere but skiing? In my time I have had the distinction of breaking so many bones it's untrue and at my age I can do without the hassle of more of the same, so ski holidays are out for me. Having said that, I really like to see good skiers flying down the piste and always think that it must be fantastic fun. Tell you what - I'll do the self drive  and you do the skiing, ok?

I'd hate to dampen the mood but there are some things which need to be addressed where self drive holidays are concerned, the ski variety or otherwise, and number one on my list is that good European breakdown insurance is needed - it matters not how big or expensive your car is you still need insurance just in case, and anyway, it's so cheap it ain't worth bothering about.

Over the years we have gathered together some mainly common sense good holiday tips and we have introduced them into a page here, but these mainly apply to people who go on self drive holidays as opposed to package tours. The page is rather tongue in cheek and is supposed to carry a certain amount of humour to keep your interest but the points made are all valid, so please have a look as it could save you a 90 Euro on the spot fine.

Obviously you will have your skis nailed down to the roof of your vehicle, or at least somewhere safe where they don't impede your driving or injure any passengers you may have. Apart from that then there are a few issues which need your attention in order to have a hassle free self drive ski holiday, and these are detalied here. This page covers European driving laws and there is a link through to the AA who are the fount of all wisdom on these matters, but we have detailed several areas which should grab the attention of anyone embarking on a self drive holiday anywhere in Europe. Of particular importance is the latest law which requires high visibility clothing to be carried in the car, and to be available to the driver to be able to put it on inside the car if so requested by the police. This came into effect July 2008 and was enforced October 2008. It is still new enough for French/Spanish police to want to take an interest in you, so for the sake of a few pounds please get one for yourself and your passengers.
