Camping and mobile home holidays in Royan, Charente Maritime: If you have a website which relates to camping in Royan and you would like to see it featured here then please email camp@campingmobilehomesholidays.co.uk
Royan is a seaside town in Charente Maritime on the West coast of France below La Rochelle and Rochefort and above Bordeaux. There are great fracilities there and fantastic beaches stretching for miles along the Atlantic coast, all of this making a paradise for tourists and excellent for camping and mobile home holidays. The Royan area benefits from a micro-climate much like the Mediterranean coast and I wish I was there now because the fishing sounds good as well, and also the area around Royan is famous for producing oysters and mussels, so the shops and restaurants will be selling top class sea food.
If you are self drive camping in the Royan area then you really ought to have a look at Ile d'Oleron which is easily accessible from your Royan base. Don't go there looking for shops because they look to be few and far between; just the sort of place for bird and wildlife watching though. Indeed, there is a bird hospital on the island, Le Marais aux Oiseaux, which is now a breeding centre for rare and endangered species. And if you aren't into birds there are plenty of beaches to explore and sunbathe on.
You may as well explore while you're on your camping holiday, and what better than to go just a couple of miles north of Royan to the famous Zoo at La Palmyre. We haven't been there but we have been to Zoos in France where they have a different attitude to the animals than we do here in that if at all possible the non dangerous ones are left to roam free rather than be in cages.
If you haven't already booked your holiday then one camping and mobile home holiday company that we can thoroughly recommend is Matthews France which is a Brit family run camping business, so no language barrier. Matthews have a base in the Royan area on the Camping Palmyre Loisirs which is a 4* camp site - that is for camping and mobile homes rather than just tent camping. We haven't stopped at the Royan site but we have stayed at some of their other bases in France, hence the recommend.
