Camping Provence: Information about camping and mobile home holidays in Provence

We should really start this page with an introduction to Provence which is best given by the official Provence website and follow that with a decent map of the area, both of which we hope will be of some use to anyone thinking of taking a camping holiday in Provence, and probably now is a good time to mention that driving to Provence from the UK is a long way. That being the case it might be well worth your while to take a look at our page about European driving laws, some of which have changed recently, and one in particular which was introduced in the Summer of 2008 and which is already making the French an absolute fortune in on the spot fines issued by the police when they stop unsuspecting Brit drivers.

Driving to Provence is pretty easy even if it is quite a longish trek. The best ferry ports for this trip are Dover/Calais, the Tunnel or even as far North as Dover/Dunkerque. Bomb straight down the map on the A26 Autoroute and keep going...until at some stage most of us will need to take an overnight stop somewhere because this is too long a trip for one driver to do all at once, which is all the more reason to take notice of newly introduced driving regulations. Remember, a stiff on the spot fine at the start of your holiday will ruin it for sure!

Provence boasts masses and masses of camping sites and you don't have to pay St Tropez prices either, though shopping in the major towns like St Trop will no doubt bring tears to your eyes - are they all squillionaires down there? Towns like St Trop, St Raphael (which I remember from 40+ years ago as a dusty little village) Cannes, Nice are all mega expensive so leave your credit cards behind when you pay those places a visit.

But the weather is generally excellent and has proved to be too hot for some people in the past, indeed, the rich locals take to cooler climes in the summer months, so pack some half decent sun screen with a good factor because you'll need it.
