Our suggestions for beautiful trips to enjoy this season in a tent or static caravan
Alongside the economic downturn and the return of the ‘staycation’ as a popular holiday choice for up to one third of the UK population, it is not surprising that campsites and caravan parks are enjoying a renaissance.
There some very clichéd images of camping and caravanning in the UK – most of which seem to involve knotted hankies on sunburnt heads and warmed up baked beans – when in actual fact there is a huge breadth and range of both traditional and modern options.
For many of us who cannot afford to buy our own caravan to attach to the car and drive around, there is the option of static caravans. There are static caravans for sale from some of the most trusted caravanning companies – such as Park Resorts – and these are ideal for city dwellers who want an escape.
Spots such as Camber Sands, the Gower in West Wales, and the East Anglian coast, are ideal places for static caravanning this spring, where you’ll enjoy the spring sun and lambs bouncing into life, as well as long sandy bays and a brisk bit of sea breeze.
If we have another delightfully sunny April, it’ll be the top spot to be – and if the weather is a little wetter and wintrier, you’ll have the advantage of cuddling up in a warm caravan (rather than a tent) and watching the weather outside.
For travellers with a car, northern Scotland’s beautiful landscapes are an attractive option. From Doune to John O’Groats, Orkney and along the west coast, there are hundreds of miles of rugged coastline, hills and mountains, dotted with small villages and campsites.
Camping in the mountains of this part of the UK is definitely a sunny spring option – as there can still be snow up there in March – but a beautiful one at that.
