Yurt camping in the Peak District - if you have a business offering Yurt camping holidays or mini breaks and you would like it to feature on the page please mail me at camp@campingmobilehomesholidays.co.uk

I was born and bred in the Peak District, and while there have been many times in my life that I would have liked it to have been the South of France I really love the place. Like the rest of the UK we used to have proper seasons that you could bank on, very cold Winters with loads of snow, good Springs and excellent Summers, the Autumns being proper Autumns just like they have in Canada.

Moving on to today though means that the seasons have more or less melded into one and everything is far milder but wetter. It is probably the milder climate which has resulted in a plethora of camping areas springing up in the Peak District -formerly they used to be tents, but now Yurts have risen in the popularity stakes and we now have farms which used to farm selling Yurt camping holidays. Amazing really, but good on the farmers for being adaptable: if you can't make a good living in farming then get into the leisure industry, ie, Yurt camping.

The Peak District covers a lot of ground and it is the second most visited National Park in the world after the Fuji National Park in Japan. So, where there are tourists there must be people and organisations to cater for their needs. This is why there the Peak District National Park is fully managed by the Peak Park Planning Board in Bakewell amongst other organisations. There are walking trails, cycling trails and hire shops and lots and lots of B&B accommodation, and now we have a steady influx of upmarket camping sites offering Yurt camping holidays, some of which are open all year round.

This is where Yurt camping comes into it's own: Hundreds of years ago the old Mongols used to live in Yurts all year round in far, far harsher climates than the good old Peak District, and even now Yurts are used in Lapland when the Laps take their reindeer to different pastures sometimes a great many miles away from home.
