Camping and mobile home holidays, Guines, Picardy in northern France

Travel to Guines for your camping or mobile home holiday via either the Channel Tunnel or by ferry to Calais and you could be in your tent or mobile home within 30 minutes of disembarking. This has to be one of the most northerly holiday resorts in France.

That being the case, it does tend to have quite a lot of “one night stands” in the campsites, and by that we mean it is often used as an overnight stop for travellers going to and from the ferry.

Guines is a small town about 12 KMs inland from the Calais ferry port, and if you follow the D27 road out of Calais it leads you straight to the town.

This relatively undiscovered area offers you the best of both worlds: a rural setting for getting away from it all, and a coastline that teems with sandy beaches and bustling resorts.

Small it may be but we doubt you will ever be bored here, especially if you like walking or cycling as the town is set in some wonderful countryside and there is also the Foret de Guines for walking in and spotting the local wildlife.

Watersports enthusiasts will love nearby Lac d’Ardres which is only about 6 KMs away, and again for nature lovers there is le Marais (the marshland) just to the north of Guines where you will see literally millions of small (harmless) dragonflies in the summertime. Hold your hand with the fingers pointing upwards and they will most probably settle there to sunbathe!

Well nobody promised that the weather here is the same as in the south of France, but it is generally mild and usually slightly better than the south of England, but we have found that people don’t visit the Guines region on their mobile home holidays just for the weather, they tend to visit for a peaceful holiday where they can wander around undisturbed and at the same time take in the beauty of their surroundings.
