Self drive mobile home holidays: If you have a website relating to self drive mobile home holidays and you would like to see it featured here then please email camp@campingmobilehomesholidays.co.uk

If you take self drive holidays and combine them with self catering as most people do, and at the same time stay in mobile homes then you are men and women after my own heart. As I've got older and don't camp so much these days I have found that (for the past few years) mobile homes are my sort of holiday. We travel about Europe, mainly France really, but Spain and sometimes Italy for our hols and we self drive all the way there and back on usually excellent roads, and one thing that I noticed is that you can travel 500 miles or so in France and not be half as tired at the end of it as you are when you drive up the M1 from London to Derby! It's because the driving in France isn't so stressful I think, or the driving in England Land is. Add to that some fog or a downpour on one of our motorways and it always, but always gives me a headache. So then, we have at least established that self drive holidays in France are not at all stressful even if it's your first time at driving "on the wrong side of the road".

We have indeed thought of buying a mobile home and siting it on the West coast of France but maybe that will have to wait another year or so until we have more family agreement as to exactly where to place it, but whether we do, or whether we keep on renting one for a few weeks at a time we shall still have the freedom of self drive when we go on holidays.

One thing has puzzled me for many years: Now I am a guy who has been round the block a few times, camped all over the globe, and not always as in holidays either I may add, but I have never, never ever owned one of those very small caravans that you can't stand upright in, nor have I ever owned or driven one of those motorhomes which look like a sad ice cream van and which would never make the journey from Calais to Lyon on a good day. My question is: Why the Hell do they do it??? Are they Pygmies. A mate of mine says they are generally the sort of people who would buy a Reliant Robin, and having thought about this very wise statement I agree.

The beauty of self drive holidays lies in the freedom they offer, the total freedom to go precisely where and when you wish when you are established in your mobile home. We are planning a mega self drive holiday when I retire staying in mobile homes all the time and lasting from Spring to when the camping sites close sometime in the September. Obviously this will take careful planning and some buttering up of site owners beforehand but it is certainly something which is going to happen in the next few years.
