Carnac, on the south coast of Brittany probably has more history on show than most places in Europe. It is not just famous for camping and mobile home holidays; it was far more famous down the ages for untold thousands of years for the Monoliths or Alignments which are really standing stones placed there probably before our own Stone Henge.
So if you are history buffs there is no better way of seeing the Alignments than hopping on one of the little tourist trains which will take you all around the area - Carnac Plage & la Trinité where you can see the beaches and shops, and of course, the standing stones.
Carnac is well within easy driving distance of St Malo or Roscoff ferry ports and is well situated for serious shopping in the cities of Vannes and/or Lorient, or just days out to places like nearby Quiberon or the Golfe du Morbihan which is really a large bay leading up to the city of Vannes and which houses masses of small islands.
Carnac and the nearby Carnac Plage are home to quite a few sites for camping and mobile home holidays, as are many more little resorts on the southern Brittany coast.
Visitors to Brittany in general notice the remarkable resemblance of the scenery to that of Cornwall, and that is especially true of the rocky coastline with sandy beaches which are endemic to both regions.
