There is nothing like a good camping holiday, and some of the places I have camped in on this planet have been just that: nothing like a good camping holiday! You can't possibly say that about Les Sables d'Olonne though because the whole area is great for holidays as you would expect on the West coast of France, in fact I have counted 13 (hope that's not unlucky) camping sites very near to Les Sables. Here again when we mention camping we confuse tent camping and holidays in mobile homes, but they both seem to come under the heading of camping holidays for some reason.

The weather round Les Sables d'Olonne is near enough as good as it is in the Cote D’Azur so if you are looking for a beach holiday then the weather is pretty well assured. There the similarity with the Cote D’Azur ends because it is a days' traveling nearer to England Land and the price of everything in the shops is significantly less. The sea is different too because Les Sables is on the Bay of Biscay which can and does get fairly rough at times. All this is great for surfers though and they flock to the area in drooves to catch the right wave. Head further South to somewhere around the Gironde estuary for calmer waters. The main beach is Grande Plage des Sables d'Olonne and is a couple of miles or 3K long. It is well sheltered and is also well supervised in season, which all in all makes it a nice place for families to relax and sunbathe.

Les Sables is a hop skip and a jump South of St Jean de Monts and even less from St Giles Croix-de-Vie if you are following the coast road, but if you are going there for the first time you may well have to go through La Roche-sur-Yon. If so then I pity you because I've done that trip many times and have always found la Roche to take longer to get round than anywhere else in France, but once through La Roche you haven't got far to go before you arrive at Les Sables d'Olonne and get acquainted with your camping site.
