Second home insurance Sadly we are not in a position to buy a proper second home, other a mobile home which we may well purchase in 2009. As my wife and I are over 60 (I am a toy boy by the way) there are no rich uncles or aunts who may conveniently pass away and leave us their fortunes to be frittered on luxuries like a second home whether it be here or abroad - I feel a tear form in the corner of my eye! Even so, we shall nontheless buy that mobile and site it somewhere in the Vendee and we shall inevitably tell acquaintances that it is our second home - and no, you can't borrow it for 2 weeks in August so that your tribe of ghastly kids can partly demolish it, leaving us second homeless once again.
Truthfully, that situation really happened to some friends of ours, and luckily they had had the foresight to take out comprehensive insurance when they bought it the previous year. It still left them with plenty of hassle but their expenses were taken care of by the insurance company which was the main thing. The family who were responsible had a sudden cash flow problem which meant they were unable to pay for the damage. Lucky for them is wasn't our mobile they trashed or I would have been round there with a stick.
If you mention to your peers that you have a second home then some of them will conclude rightly or wrongly that you are wealthy, and they could well be right there as some of the Park Homes are £150 K plus, apartments or houses either here in the UK or abroad can cost far, far more. Whatever you buy as a second home then please, please make sure you have a comprehensive insurance policy to cover it.

| Home-Insurance - More and more people in the United Kingdom are buying second homes, to be used as that weekend get away or country retreat. Most insurers will not provide cover for properties that are used as holiday homes due to the increased liability for renting to holiday makers or due to long periods of unoccupancy. UKinsurancenet can provide insurance cover whether you use the property as your own holiday retreat, occasionally or frequently, or if you let your property to holiday makers. Also, the dream of owning a holiday home abroad has become a reality with many people now owning overseas properties |
