Cheap holiday insurance

Would you think about purchasing travel insurance when planning a holiday within the UK? Many of us overlook it as an unnecessary expense, however, travel insurance for a trip made in the UK is just as important as it is for an overseas trip and is usually a lot cheaper too. Whilst foreign policies are needed more to cover medical expenses, there are many things which are worth getting covered for in the UK as well. Find a recommended UK travel insurance provider to see what they can offer you.

Some of the things you will be covered for when taking a trip in the UK include missed or delayed departure when travelling by plane or ferry, cancellation, and more importantly loss of personal items. Some providers will even offer to pay for the cost of transportation to a hospital closer to home if you need to be hospitalised, meaning loved ones can be with you, without spending extra on accommodation costs. Other important considerations when choosing a UK travel insurance policy is the distance of the trip from home, some providers state you must be more than 50 miles from home. Other providers state that the purpose of the trip must be mainly pleasure, not business, so it's important to check.

If you are travelling as a family, couple or group then it is a lot cheaper to purchase travel insurance together, rather than individually. The important thing to check is the way the provider defines the family, group or couple. A 'family' will normally consist of 2 adults and up to 4 children under the age of 18. A 'couple' will normally be two adults living at the same address, but this may differ between providers. Some providers offer different ways to customise the policy, for example, a family may be able to increase the personal baggage cover if you have a lot of luggage. Some couples policies may include wedding cover, as there are extra risks which must be accounted for when getting married abroad.

If you do forget to purchase your travel insurance before you leave the country then it is important you don't lie and say that you are still at home. If you do this and then have to make a claim the insurance will most likely be invalid. Don't lose hope though, there are a few select providers which will allow you to get your travel insurance even when you are already abroad. If you want to renew your policy when you are abroad due to a change of plans then it is normally very easy to do. As long as it hasn't already ended, a quick phone call to your insurance provider will allow you to extend your policy.
