Mobile homes Vendee - If you have a Vendee related site such ascamping in the Vendee and would like to see it featured here then please email camp@campingmobilehomesholidays.co.uk
We started taking self drive, self catering mobile homes holidays in the Vendee in 1992. We stayed in a mobile home then and we have stayed in mobile homes ever since. We used to camp all over the place and in a previous life I had to camp, or sleep at any rate, in places that would make your skin crawl - I wasn't homeless, it was considered part of the career I was following which I won't go into on this page.
So in 1992 we took our rather beautiful 16 year old blonde haired daughter and her friend to St Jean de Monts which is on the Vendee coast facing the Bay of Biscay for two weeks of absolutely magical holiday in the first mobile home any of us had ever stayed in. That mobile was owned by one of the large travel companies and it was its first year on the site, and we were only the third party to stay in it. You could still smell the newness.
What ever anyone says I still believe that the weather plays a great part in determining whether you have a great holiday or an average one. Personally I like it hot and so does the rest of the family, but failing that can it be dry please? Fortunately the Vendee climate is one of the best in France and the visitors to St Jean de Monts are lucky to get the best of it.
Fast forward quite a few years to the Summer of 2007 when we were back in the Vendee, in St J de M once more and complete with same daughter, and mobile homes were on our collective minds yet again, though this time we were seriously thinking of buying one, partly to stay in for our own holidays and partly to rent out to offset the yearly costs. This time we were staying at Les Amiaux with Matthews Holidays which is about 2K out of St J de M on the coast road to Notre Dame de Monts; a seriously nice site and quite large too with around 450 emplacements, though a casual observer would never know that because the camp is split into two parts and you can't see either part from the other. We can certainly recommend the standard of mobile homes Matthews have and also the high standard of service which we found was part of their family business.
Mobile homes abound in the Vendee but sadly we couldn't come to an agreement as to where to buy. I wanted to buy one in St J de M because I love the place, but my wife and daughter wanted to be in a more sheltered town because the seafront area of St J de M does get quite windy which is not a problem in itself but the sand it carries IS a prob and can have your eyes out in seconds. We shall be going back to the Vendee in 2009 for another holiday and to look at other mobile homes which might be for sale.
