Luxury Mobile Homes for holidays and for use and second homes
Manufacturers of mobile homes seem to be able to add more luxury to their specifications on a virtually yearly basis without also making significant additions to the size of the units, which is great in terms of miniaturisation and helps to maintain the difference in their varying models.
OK, we know that these units are used primarily for two entirely separate reasons: To rent or hire out for camping holidays, and to use as very adequate second homes. Looking back some years when we took a holiday in Quiberon just off the south coast of Brittany, we were totally underwhelmed when on arrival we found that our mobile home was one of the older and more basic types on the planet. There were only the two of us, and even though neither of us could in any way be called corpulent it was still a struggle.
Our holidays were with a French company who said that the mobile we had booked was the only one they had for that week. I complained bitterly but we stuck it out and moved on to St Jean de Monts for the second week of our hols, with the same company I must add. My complaint must have hit a nerve because awaiting us at Les Amiaux was one of their brand new mobile homes, a huge Cottage type which just oozed luxury.
This was the first time it had been hired out and as French holiday companies inspect their mobiles with a fine toothcomb before you leave we were initially reluctant to go inside wearing shoes in case we scratched their pristine clean new floor! God only knows what those things cost but we wanted one ourselves for the time in the near future when retirement will be an option.
Lucky are they, we reasoned, who are able to leave our murky shores for six months or so and take up residence in France, Spain, Portugal or Italy in their very own second home and have all the comforts and luxury they had in their main property. Of course, some people live in them nearly all the year round, though they must have a couple of weeks per year off site for legal reasons. You can't do that on a normal camping site abroad but there are other mobile home parks which do allow long term residence.
