Self drive holidays in Spain. If you have a self drive holiday website that you would like to see featured on this page please mail camp@campingmobilehomesholidays.co.uk
Do you plan your holidays? I mean do you plan where you will end up, or do you just hop in the car, drive down to the ferry and toss a coin for which way you'll go when you land in France? Personally we plan but I know of some who don't and they seem to have just as good a time because everything they encounter is new and mysterious.
Self drive holidays in Spain need a little forethought though because assuming that you take a ferry from the UK to France you need to have decided beforehand which Spanish coast you want to visit. If you self drive to the Northern Spanish coast around Bilbao and Santander then you will best driving down the Western coast of France, round Bayonne and into Spain. We've never been to that area but I have been told that it's very green and lush, probably due to the rainfall, and is one of the choice areas where the Spanish take their own holidays
The Southern coast - round Perpignan and into Spain that way is where most of the Brits end up when they go self drive into Spain. A visit to Barcelona has to be on the agenda, and seeking out some of the centuries old villages needs to be on the list too before they become spoilt.
Of course you could always take the ferry direct from Portsmouth to Bilbao, but isn't that cheating a little?
Self drive holidays should be fun. Take your time and be careful because some of the Spanish drivers are rather manic drivers. Make sure that you keep your driving documents handy and you and your car conform with European driving laws.
One great campsite we have found in the Costa Brava region of Spain during our time looking at self drive holidays is Camping Sant Pol & Bungalow Park, in Sant Feliu de Guíxols. Sant Pol is a very small, cosy, family owned campsite, with a firm understanding of campers’ needs. This hillside site is on the edge of Sant Feliu, only 350 m. from the beach. A beautiful swimming pool (heated in winter), bar & restaurant are the central focus of the site with shaded terraces and pitches of differing sizes curving down the slope. Higher terraces have the bungalows, which are made out of wood in a Mediterranean cool style. Plentiful shadow, plants and flowers (over 1.000 species).Play area. Animation for children in high season. Minigolf & table-tennis. Library, internet point and WiFi.
Because most people only have a limited amount of holiday time for their self drive holidays that the Costa Brava area of Spain is far enough for them to go in one hop, and depending on where you live even that can take 2 days from the UK. Self drive holidays in France and Spain are wonderful but you really don't want to be driving all of your holiday, do you?
