Naturist holidays in Portugal
Portugal, well what can one say? It is such a lovely country attached to the Western part of Spain and running down from its Northernmost point at Viana do Castelo down to the Algarve in the South. To the West of Portugal is all sea, so beaches line virtually all the country from top to bottom. Obviously this leaves plenty of space for naturist beach holidays. The climate is prettywarm for most of the year as one would expect, and even the winters are mild compared to those we endure in the UK. At least they don't have to put up with our endless drizzle and bitingly cold winds, both of which would make the average naturist think twice about shedding the raiment.
Portugal has 3 main cities: Porto, or Oporto as we call it, Sintra on the coast, and of course the nearby capital city of Lisbon.
Portugal is famous for Sherry and Port, of course, but it has a way to go to catch up with neighbouring Spain in the naturist holiday stakes. There are naturist beaches of course but they are not so numerous as in the more liberated Spain, and especially France where naturist holidays are quite normal, as they should be.
However, it is not for us to call the Portuguese for not being into naturism as much as some other countries because it wouldn't do for us all to be the same. Portugal has it's golf in the Algarve and golf cannot offend anyone's sensibilities can it?
We believe that if you like Portugal and really want to take a naturist holiday there then you may well be better off seeking the advice of a friendly travel agent who has spent time in the country rather than jumping on the plane and stripping off on the nearest beach when you arrive. It is worth remembering that the police in Portugal are probably not the most forgiving souls in the world, and if you are copped without your kit on in the wrong area then you can expect the full weight of the law descending on your collar - a rather silly thing to say because that is one of the last things you will be wearing, but I sincerely hope you get the drift. Whup, and in the brig mate!
