It's nigh on impossible to put a date on when naturist holidays were invented, or who it was that originally said,"Right chaps, let's all get our kit off and go to the seaside for a couple of weeks." My bet is that naturism started some thousands of years ago in the dawn of time in the life of mankind, possibly in Eastern Turkey where archeologists have recently discovered what may have once been The Garden of Eden, circa 12 or 13,000 years ago. With Turkey having a nice and warm climate it would have come as no hardship to walk around naked, and one of them may just have decided to leg it to the beach with his/her family for a break, and thus starting the trend of naturist holidays as we know them today. A nice theory - can you beat it for authenticity?
We have recently come across a nice place in Spain for naturist holidays so why not take a look at what Chris and Sue Sansby have to offer on their site in the Ebro Valley which lies between Valencia and Barcelona, the Med area of Northern Spain? This is a really beautiful area with stunning mountain scenery and a deceptively good climate - mostly warm and sunny. Average temperatures range from 18°C in April to 25°C in June and September, and 30°C in July. In October, temperatures still average 15°C. No goose bumps there then!
At the tender age of 62 I can well remember when naturism, or nudism was ill regarded in the UK, and it was quite frowned upon by the God fearing majority in those more austere days of my youth as being "not quaite naice", and the sort of thing that hippies and other odd people got up to, but like most other red blooded lads of my age group I had yet to see my first naked female, never mind going on holiday where everyone would be unclothed. That was to change a few years later on a driving holiday to the South of France where the campsite showers were bisex and naked ladies abounded, much to our huge delight. It wasn't a naturist holiday per se, but at least it got us lads into the feel of things, so to speak.
Yet there are still those poor people who have yet to take their first naturist holidays: they may not be inclined to shedding their clothes on holiday for whatever reason, possibly because they may be carrying a tad too much weight which would cause them to be embarrassed. Dear God! It's a crying shame that those people can't have just a peep into a naturist camp or visit a naturist beach for a few moments before they make a decision as to whether this could be a possible holiday venue for them because they would be in for a serious shock. Not every naked man is by any means an Adonis on a naturist beach, and not every woman is moulded like Elle McPherson (sadly). You will be more likely to find that most have an ample supply of spare flesh, but you know what? They seriously don't give a damn! Naturists, nudists clothing is their skin and you take them as you find them, fat or thin, though usually on a beach that means playing volleyball whatever their age! Dunno why, but naturists do seem addicted to volleyball. Perhaps they like to let everyone see it all jiggling around.
Perhaps the nearest, and maybe the best naturist holidays in Europe are to be found in the South of France as this area lends itself to very skimpy attire in the Summer months because of the heat if nothing else. I am led to understand that we Brits tend to keep our kit on more than any other nation in Europe, and this is outrageous! Why not badger your local MEP to make a new EU law to force more Brits to take naturist holidays, and just possibly that may nudge you into taking one yourself.
