Log cabins and log chalets, or lodges as some call them are dotted all over Europe for the express purpose of letting them out to holidaymakers either in the sunny areas for summer holidays or in the higher altitudes to be let out as ski chalets. Indeed, these last are the ones most constantly in demand as they are no sooner vacated by the ski set than they are taken again by sun worshippers through the Spring and Summer.

Why take a holiday in a log cabin or chalet as opposed to a mobile home or park home? I guess it's just a matter of personal taste but the log cabins we have seen when we have holidayed in France have been incredible, at least from the outside, and they don't disappoint when you enter one either. The finish on these log cabins is superb and the interior appointments are to die for, far better than you would ever be offered some years ago in some of the top named sites in the UK. These things cost the owners a bomb yet they aren't that much dearer to rent for a week's holiday than is a mobile of a similar size.

One advantage of log cabins over most other types of none hotel accommodation is that the beds are of a higher standard, in fact we went round one in France last summer and were amazed at how luxurious they were, just as good as at home even. But they thing which attract lots of holiday makers is that there is just that teeny bit more room in a log cabin, chalet or lodge than there is in a mobile home.
