Mobile homes France - If you have a site relating to mobile homes in France and you would like to see it featured here then please email camp@campingmobilehomesholidays.co.uk

France to us is the ultimate country to holiday in mobile homes. That doesn't mean to say that the mobiles are any bettter or worse than anywhere else, it just means that France itself plus the atmosphere, the food, the weather (usually) all combined with the accommodation which is a mobile home make for an unforgettable holiday. Added to all that are your neighbours on the campsite who can be a joy as we have often found, and when you get to know a few the evenings can be quite a social occasion.

Mobile homes, or static caravans if you like, are abundant throughout France, like fleas on a dog's back in fact, right around the coastline and inland as well, and all to tempt the tourist in search of a holiday and some sunshine. As well as mobile homes to rent or hire for a week or two France also has a mini industry in selling them and you will find them advertised for sale in every corner of the country. Most of the tour operators have some stock to sell at the end of the season as well so you could get a bargain if you have the cash.

I forget exactly when it was that mobile homes became so popular but certainly we have stayed in them for the last couple of decades after a disasterous holiday camping in the South of France when we, our tent and most of our belongings were all but washed away in a flood. That's when my wife stamped her feet in 6 inches of water and said, "Soddit, I am not sleeping in a tent ever again! Grrrrr!" She has done of course but to say that she was Teed off on that particular jaunt would be an understatement and a half.

Holiday accommodation of this sort comes in lots of sizes and specifications, different models and comfort levels, so it is nigh on impossible to make a comparison between the holiday mobile offered by company X and company Y, but (and I have nothing against the French here) it usually works out for the best if Brits hire or rent mobile homes from Brit companies, if only for the reason that they will have 3 pin sockets and 220/240V mains as opposed to the French mobiles having 110V and 2 pin sockets. Ladies do need to know that their hair driers will work on holiday I find.

We nearly bought a mobile home in France last year but we couldn't agree on the siting, and are still arguing about it, so maybe 2009 will be the year for us to invest. All of which brings us neatly to another topic: Buying mobile homes in France, or anywhere else for that matter. We are in a recession and so is France though from the media coverage is seems that only the UK is suffering. Not a bit of it. I mention this because if you have the money then this could be the time you've been waiting for because you are in the prime position to do a deal.

Haggle over the price to the point where the sales person has lost the will to live. He/she knows full well that there are more mobile homes for sale in France than there are buyers.

Haggle over the site fees too. You should get a reduction during the bad years but expect to pay more when the economy recovers.

Best of luck and please let me know how you get on.
