Just a reminder for those who haven't looked at our other camping pages yet: More often than not camping holidays and mobile home holidays come under the same heading. If you want to camp in a tent then you need to search for tent camping (holidays).

As we mentioned somewhere else in this site (probably every other page), France is our most favourite place for camping holidays and we have been lucky enough to visit quite a lot of the country, but not all by any means - yet. I could never tire of France as there are so many different micro climates it just isn't true. The result of all this is that there are thousands of camp sites both large and small dotted all over France.  If you are doing the self drive thing to France this year then you may like to have a look at our page about European driving laws as there was a new law out last Summer (2008) which affects anyone driving in France or Spain.

Site owners reported that the 2008 season was a good one though I have doubts about that as quite a few operators were offering camping holidays in France last July at half price. For everyone's sake we hope that the 2009 camping season takes off well and maintains a steady flow of campers over there, but things do look a tad grim with the £ Pound Sterling and the Euro nearly on par - at the time of writing 05/02/2009 £1 buys 1.05 Euros. It has been worse but it could be lots better, so fingers crossed that things improve before people start to book their holidays outside the Eurozone or we could see a disaster in the French camping holiday market this year. At the very least, it makes a pint of weak lager/beer about £4.50 at the moment in a French bar. This summer of 2009 lots of us need to make some savings on our annual holidays, and to this end we have dedicated a page to Holiday Savings which we hope will be helpful - it isn't rocket science, merely common sense with a few ideas of ours thrown in.

Our own camping/self drive holidays invariably take us to the Vendee on the Western coast of France where we hire a mobile home for a couple of weeks every June/July. The area is wonderful with lots to do, markets to visit and villages to wander round. There are some wonderful beaches to be found in the Vendee, some of which are suitable for all ages like the main beach at St Jean de Monts and some which are superb for surfers like the one at Longeville Sur Mer where surfers come to from all over Europe in Summertime when the tides are just right.

Camping is a wonderful way to spend a holiday but now and again you come across a problem family - you know the ones I mean - lots of unruly kids and all, simply all of them including their parents are noisy beyond belief.
