Self drive holidays round a continent the size of Europe would need serious consideration and a vast amout of planning, and you may have seen on other pages in this site that I keep stressing that the lack of planning before a holiday of any sort, let alone a self drive one is the basis for possible disaster, calamity and a lousy holiday for all concerned. Planning the journey and homework of the country, town and area around where you are to stay matter so much

When you think of Europe you have to envision a huge, massive land mass, a terrific area in which to take self drive holidays. For instance, France alone is two or three times the size of the UK, and add in all the other European countries then you have plenty to go at. Self drive holidays round Europe don't sound too exciting at this stage, more like a rally or something, but they can be exciting and they can be luxurious if you have the right vehicle.

I would dearly love to have the time to take a leisurely drive around Europe; probably 6 or 12 months would be needed to do it properly, but where would you or I stay? Wouldn't accommodation alone cost an arm and a leg? The answer I suppose is to follow every middle aged man's fantasy and buy a motorhome to get you where you want to go and to sleep in as well. Tow a small car or hang a motorbike on the back for local journeys and you have the job cracked.
