Yurt camping holidays in Devon - if you have a yurt camping site in Devon and would like it to be featured on the page please email camp@campingmobilehomesholidays.co.uk

Yurts, the accommodation of choice for Attila the Hun and his Hordes all those hundreds of years ago, have made a surprising comeback during the last few years as holiday accommodation would you believe. Camping sites have sprung up all over the place, and the Internet is buzzing with page titles, Yurt camping in Devon, Cornwall, South of France etc.

The Yurts themselves are pretty similar to the originals, indeed I believe that some Yurt manufacturers have researched the origins and now strive to make them as near as possible to what they were like a thousand years or more ago.

Yurt camping is hardly slumming it you know. These things are the height of luxury in the camping world, carpets, raised beds and very often they have wood burning stoves to cope with our summers. They are really good kit and represent a considerable investment on behalf of the site owner, so naturally you would believe that they are a tad dearer to rent than an ordinary tent, and quite rightly so.

We have listed a couple of sites below which are involved in Yurt camping holidays in Devon.

Hidden Valley Yurts - Our yurt camping field is situated on the far west of our valley farm - the south facing field is located alongside a stream bordered by trees and is completely hidden (as its name suggests).

This isn't a manicured sort of campsite - the terrain is steep in places and with the car park a fairly steep field away, you do need to be reasonably fit and active. The grass in the yurt field is left long (we will mow some paths through but we are keen to increase the wildflowers so need to leave it un mown until late summer. There are paths through the woods but no paved areas and except in long dry spells, there is always some mud and the short cut is through the stream, so pack your wellies or crocs.

Sustainable Build - (These guys make Yurts) Once you have stepped into a ger or yurt, and experienced the freedom of life within its circular space, or enjoyed camping in one, then you will know what it is like to get a sense of nomadic life, in a portable, highly individual and protective, and ultimately sustainable, ancient form of ecological architecture. Individuals and communities across Europe are now enjoying life in these beautiful dwellings, living on and with the earth, in a highly sustainable way.
