Yurt camping holidays in Wales. If you have a yurt camping in Wales business website and you would like to have it mentioned on this page then please mail camp@campingmobilehomesholidays.co.uk

I read on one website that the first yurts have been traced back to the time of Genghis Khan. Marco Polo, observing the nomadic people of Mongolia, noticed their sturdy, exactly-round tents made of rods, covered with felt, which they carried with them on carts. Yurts (or gers, as they are called in Asia), are still used today throughout parts of Russia, Mongolia and Siberia. However, I don't think this is true as there is evidence that Attlia of the Hun fame and his Hordes used them 6 or 7 hundred years before. Do the maths - Attlia died circa 453 AD, Genghis passed away about 1227 AD.

I guess that their popularity waned somewhat until it was reborn recently with the Eco tent of choice, the modern Yurt which is now used for camping holidays in England, Scotland Wales and all over Europe.

Yurt camping in Wales, or anywhere else for that matter is "cool", certainly the trendy way to camp these days because the Eco people say so. Whatever, it is a magic way to camp and most comfortable too. Yurt camping is luxury camping at it's best.

Editor's choice

Hidden Valley Yurts offers 5 real Mongolian Yurts in a secluded 80 acre valley in the Wye Valley, Wales.  Each yurt is sited on a wooden deck and has a wood burning stove to keep guests warm and cosy.  The yurts are fully furnished and each has a king size bed together with a mix of day beds and futons to sleep between 5 and 7 in each yurt.  Facilities include an fully equipped kitchen - there is even an espresso machine, dishwasher and ice maker and a full size bath as well as solar powered showers – but guests still class the stream, the beautiful meadows and woods and the campfire as the best features!

This holiday offers a fabulous opportunity to enjoy all the benefits of camping with none of the pain.  No tent to put up and down, no equipment to take – just bring your food and your sleeping bag – this really is luxury camping.

The yurts are imported by us from Mongolia and the woodwork is decorated with beautiful hand painted traditional patterns similar in effect to the painting on canal boats.  They are completely lined with thick wool felt which not only keeps them incredibly warm but also insulates the heat out (for those scorching summers we dream of!).
