Once upon a time, many years ago when I was young, very young and small, we used to play Cowboys and Indians and it was great, harmless fun running round going Bang, Bang at each other, shooting arrows from home made bows with no thought whatsoever for the Elf and Safety mob. It brings back pleasant memories as I remember the home made Wigwams, or Tepees that we made as Indians, but looking back it seems that the poor cowboys were homeless, poor chaps.

Since then, and I believe only in the last few years Wigwams and Tepees have morphed into Tipis which is fine by me but has anyone told the Red Indians about the name change?

Tipis can come in all sizes (only one shape though) from roughly 10 Feet across to 30 Feet and priced from just over £4K to about £7K. Serious money when you think about it and anyone who has a site full of Tipis for camping purposes will take a year or two to get their money back. Having said that, a Tipi should last for years and years is used with reasonable care, and so it must rate as a reasonable income, especially for a farmer these days after being so royally screwed by our inept government.

Earlier this year (2009) we noticed that Tipi camping holidays were becoming more and more available throughout Western Europe - France, Spain and Portugal, especially in the Algarve region. Now whilst we love Portugal dn the Algarve part of it we think that this is a tad too far for most holidaymakers taking self drive holidays, the Algarve being a fair old trek even if you take the boat ferry to the Spanish Costa verde and drive from there. So it's a fly/drive job then.

Now then, in the course of our research we have stumbled across a super little site which offers Tipi camping holidays in the Algarve region of Portugal which strangely enough it is called Algarve Tipi Holidays, and the owners, Nadine and Calvin promote Ethical Eco Tourism in their little corner of Portugal.

So it seems that there can be a deal more to a Tipi camping holiday than we at first thought!
