A little about the Limousin and the activities and camping holidays to be had in the region
If you had the chance to take a camping holiday (by "camping holiday" we mean camping in a tent, staying in a mobile home, caravan or motorhome) anywhere in France, which region would you choose?
And that's a tough question given the vast amount of seriously excellent holiday venues up and down France, the west coast for example, anywhere from Brittany down through the Vendee, Charente Maritime and so on down to where France meets Spain near St Jean de Luz where the surf can sometimes reach 12 metres!
If the west doesn't appeal then there is always the Cote d'Azur, Provence or the French Riviera, or the nearby Languedoc. It's lovely in all those places, if a tad expensive for shopping, but a lot of people think it's quite a trek down from Calais or the Chunnel, and for a couple of weeks self drive holiday you have to make every minute count.
All the above are near to beaches but France being what it is, vast compared to the UK, then there are loads of other places to stay which don't involve a beach, but which are no less wonderful in any sense and which have stunning scenery and lots of things to see and do. The Limousin is one such region which we believe needs some serious exploration.
Now the Limousin is one of the smaller regions of France, but at the same time it is beautiful way beyond it's size. It is located slightly to the south west of the centre of France and is totally landlocked and surrounded by no less than 5 other Departments with Centre to the north, the Auvergne to the immediate east, the Midi- Pyrenees to the south, Aquitaine lying at the south west, and lastly, Poitou Charentes to the immediate west. All of this you can see if you click on our link to a map of Limousin
All this is very nice of course but visitors to the area need somewhere to stay, so we embarked on a mission to find a company in the Limousin with something different to offer, something which is not just a camping site, and we came across The Lac du Coeur, a lake and activity centre situated just a few clicks southeast of Limoges. It has pitches with no size limit for tent camping, and caravan areas with battery recharging facilities, 'Green' Elsan disposal, Fresh water available, 'Solar' Showers on site.
Now then, with the Lac du Coeur being a lake you would expect there to be some fishing, and in that you would be completely correct as the lake is dedicated to that sport and has a strict rule that only four persons can fish at any one time. There are even purpose built swims here, and a place where you can get bait and have batteries charged - a rather convenient service seeing that there is no restriction on night fishing. The lake area has secure parking and there are toilets and showers too.
It gets better and better as there is a survival course run from here in addition to courses for Team Building where all activities are to MOD & HSE ‘Best Practice’ run by a guy who is a qualified HSE Risk Assessor + all assessments International verified. He may also be the chap who is an SAS Combat Survival Instructor with a BSc (hons) in Applied Psychology (Stress Counsellor +++) and who is qualified in Supervisory Studies, Leadership Development &’Train the Trainer’. Not a chap to upset then!
Without rabbiting on and boring you to death, all the above must give you an insight into some of the activities which can be combined with camping holidays in the Limousin.
