Camping Biarritz: Information on camping and mobile home holidays in the Biarritz area.
I have never thought that the town/city of Biarritz lends itself easily to the camping and mobile home holiday market. Not that there is anything wrong with the place or the whole surrounding area, indeed, far from it. In my naivety I assumed that Biarritz was too upmarket for these types of holidays but how wrong can you be? Sites abound in the area for both camping and mobile home holidays on the coast and inland as well.
Biarritz it situated just below Bayonne in South West France and very near to the Spanish border as our link to the map of the area shows. We have also linked to Biarritz.fr should you want to read a little more about the place before contacting a travel agent/tour operator.
If you intend to go camping in the Biarritz area then the best way to get there from the UK is via Le Havre, Caen or best of all from St Malo. Cherbourg is an option but it's a long way down the Cherbourg peninsular before you actually get anywhere. The fast dual carriageway route from St Malo to Nantes is free but after that you must decide whether to take the Autoroute and pay, or go via slower roads, and as you are starting on a longish journey you could do worse than brush up on the lates European driving laws - one such was introduced in France in the Summer of 2008 and has caught out thousands of Brit drivers to date. In France you are fined on the spot for any minor road traffic laws, and believe me there is no arguing! If you don't have cash or your card handy you could well end up in the deep doo doo.
As we have said above, Biarritz is very close to the Northern Spanish border and the Costa Verde ( Green Coast ) where lots of Spanish take their own camping holidays, and if you are camping near to the border it would pay you to pop over anyway and fill up your tank because petrol and diesel are cheaper in Spain than France - and so are fags if you smoke.
Whatever type of holiday you eventually decide to take in the Biarritz area, and we hope it will be a camping hol, then a trip to or a day out at St Jean de Luz is a must see. It is a beautiful seaside resort and active fishing port pretty much on the French/Spanish border and a place where a French king was once crowned well before the revolution.
